Trucker in dock over double fatal

A 46-year-old lorry driver has appeared before a court charged with causing the deaths of two Kent probation workers by dangerous driving.

Johnny Vos is accused of causing the deaths of Hazel Croucher and Kerry Sharp who died on the M20 near Ashford on December 21 last year.

The Dutch trucker, from the town of Axel, was remanded in custody by magistrates in Canterbury after he could not produce the £25,000 bail.

The case was transferred to Maidstone Crown Court where it is scheduled to come before a judge on May 11 for a preliminary hearing.

Hazel Croucher was 48 and lived in MacDonald Road in Dover. Kerry Sharpe had a home in Folkestone. They worked with sex offenders in the Folkestone, Dover and Canterbury offices.

They were returning home from a Christmas party when the tragedy happened. No-one else was hurt in the pile-up.
