Coronavirus Kent: Folkestone Invicta Supporters Club start gofundme page to raise money for Isthmian Premier side

Folkestone Invicta's supporters have started a gofundme page to try to help the club through the coronavirus crisis.

The account has been launched after the Isthmian Premier club's board revealed they might struggle to meet their financial obligations beyond the end of this month.

Invicta haven't played since March 10 and are unlikely to do so again this season after clubs in Steps 3 to 6, including the Isthmian League, backed a decision to end the campaign.

The board recently issued an update telling supporters that the club were able to meet their financial obligations for March.

However, beyond that they said "it will get very tough indeed."

The statement explained: "With no income whatsoever, there are still monthly bills for utilities, rent, basic pitch maintenance to prevent the pitch deteriorating to an extent where we couldn't restart football, and these have to be paid whether we are playing or not.

"We are looking at every government initiative that may apply to us, but please remember that there is always a longish gap, between an announcement, and implementation, except for delaying VAT and PAYE payments, which are self administering.

"With initiatives like loans and deferring VAT and PAYE, we have to be very careful not to accumulate debt that overwhelms us when football re-starts.

"We are a not for profit organisation in all but name, so any debt cannot be covered by future profits.

"Everyone at the club is absolutely determined that Folkestone Invicta FC will get through this if we all pull together."

A target of £3,000 has been set by Invicta's supporters club whose own statement said: "The Coronavirus has decimate (sic) all sporting events and caused postponement of many fixtures which smaller clubs rely on for the income to help their cashflow.

"In the absence of these fixtures and the closure of Bar Invicta finances must be found to satisfy commitments made to playing staff.

"The Folkestone Invicta Supporters Club assist in whatever way they can and do make monthly contributions.

"However, liabilities for the month of April must be met and without matchday income we must rely on the further generosity of our supporters.

"Any donation, no matter how small, would be gratefully received and if any supporter or any interested person would like to make a donation would they please transfer to the Supporters Club Bank: Sort Code 30-93-34 Account No 44810768."

Invicta were chasing promotion from the Isthmian Premier before the season was halted. They were in fourth spot, nine points off leaders Worthing, with 10 games to play.

They were also through to the semi-finals of the Velocity Trophy.
