Folkestone Invicta joint-head coach Micheal Everitt on midfielder Chris Regis’ debut in 2-1 Isthmian Premier win against Cheshunt; Trips to Kingstonian and Hornchurch next up

Chris Regis made an immediate impact on his Folkestone debut - and joint-head coach Micheal Everitt believes there is more to come.

Regis came through just under 80 minutes in Saturday’s 2-1 Isthmian Premier home win against Cheshunt - Invicta’s first victory since September 9.

The former Braintree player, 26, set up frontman Ibrahim Olutade for the winning goal.

Everitt, who had seen another new face in frontman Luke Holness level matters, said: “I think Chris had a really good game.

“He hadn’t played for a few weeks and probably is still searching for a bit of match sharpness. He’s 6ft3in - so he’s a big lad - but a good footballer.

“He has experience at higher levels and it was a great cross for Ibz’s goal.

“He will only get better with the more games he plays.”

The hosts had to come from behind in front of a crowd of 718 but recovered well.

Everitt reflected: “They’re a decent side.

“For 20 or 25 minutes, they were the better side. But after that, we played ourselves into the game and deserved the three points.”

Despite their recent poor form, Folkestone, at Kingstonian this Saturday, are on the fringes of the play-offs in eighth. But they have played more league fixtures than most teams around them.

“The aim is always to try and get into the play-offs,” admitted Everitt.

“But it’s a tough challenge in our league because you don’t get freebies. Everyone can beat everyone on their day.”

There is plenty of strength-in-depth - particularly up front - for Invicta.

David Smith came off the bench against Cheshunt on his return from injury while young winger Jordan Ababio was an unused substitute.

Everitt, who will also take Folkestone to Hornchurch on Tuesday, said: “That’s what you want.

“This is the first time Folkestone have, really, had a lot of changes in playing personnel.

“It’s going to take a bit of time to get it right. But having that bit of depth in the squad is needed.

“Pre-season and actual games are so different.

“While you want to get in good habits, until you get into the games, it’s not the same. If we had more of a settled side, maybe, we don’t concede so many late goals.

“The games are not 90 minutes - they’re 100.

“We played 100 minutes on Saturday, even though he only put up six.

“I think that’s why there’s been so many late goals.”

Forward Andre Coker has joined divisional rivals Carshalton on a two-month loan.

Asked if that move had been agreed to ensure Coker got regular first-team minutes, Everitt replied: “That’s exactly it.

“To be fair, before he went out on loan, he wasn’t getting the minutes he would like.

“I think it suits both parties.”

Invicta won on penalties away to Isthmian South East side Herne Bay in the Velocity Cup on Tuesday after a 1-1 draw.

Holness equalised with five minutes left in the Third-Round tie and they won the shoot-out 3-2.

Folkestone have announced the death of one of their best-loved supporters, Ken Arnold, at the age of 97.
