Rendezvous awarded firework final

ENDEZVOUS from Folkestone are Ashford Saturday League Premier Cup champions. The football club gained notoriety at the end of April when the final against Ashford side Stanhope was sensationally abandoned after a firework shot across the pitch.

It was meant as an innocent celebration to mark the 4-0 scoreline for the Folkestone team, but the visiting fans and players took it as an attack and the referee stopped the game in the 73rd minute.

After a league investigation, the Folkestone club were finally awarded the title this week. The man who held the match to the touchpaper, staunch supporter and former player Geoff Orchard, has received a caution from the police.
