Delays after van erupts in flames on A2 near Gravesend between Ebbsfleet and Bluewater

This is the moment a van was engulfed in flames on the side of the A2 near Gravesend this morning.

The vehicle erupted into a fireball on the hard shoulder of the London-bound carriageway between Ebbsfleet and Bluewater.

Smoke billowed into the sky as the blaze caused disruption for rush-hour commuters.

One lane of the A2 was closed after the fire broke out at about 7am.

Despite some crews being on strike between 6am and 8am, Kent Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters put out the blaze in around five minutes.

However, it was causing heavy congestion - with queues back to Strood.
