Abusive drunk, Mahabeer Bahia, from Gravesend, warned he could face hefty sentence next time

An abusive drunk has been warned to buck his ideas up if he’s to avoid a heftier punishment.

Magistrates at Medway agreed to postpone sentencing for six months in the case of Mahabeer Bahia, who had spiralled into alcohol abuse since the death of his father 18 months previously.

They’d heard how on Wednesday, January 9, the 24-year-old, of Darnley Street, Gravesend, was drunk and dialled 999 for an ambulance but ended up calling one operator a “f****** stupid b****” and repeatedly swearing at another.

He proceeded to call the emergency services 13 times in three hours culminating in officers attending his home and him shoulder barging one.

He was taken into custody and when in his cell chucked food everywhere and dunked his clothes down the toilet before wiping them all over the walls.

Last Tuesday he admitted relaying an offensive message, assaulting a police officer and criminal damage.

The court was told he had only just embarked on a four-month rehabilitation order, imposed two weeks ago for similar offences, and were asked to give him a chance to prove he could change his ways.

The order involves unpaid work as well as therapy.

Having agreed to delay sentencing chairman Colin Smith said: “You seem to have a problem with authority and being told what to do.

“We take a very dim view of people abusing public services. If you do it again then you’ll be going through the door to the cells rather than the exit do I make myself plain?
