Arrest after man spotted waving meat cleaver near Rose pub in Northfleet between Perry Street and Wycliffe Row

An arrest has been made after a man was spotted waving around a meat cleaver outside a pub.

Police were called to the junction between Perry Street and Wycliffe Row in Northfleet following reports of a disturbance.

Officers attended the scene near the Rose pub at around 10.40pm on July 8.

It is alleged a a man was using threatening behaviour and waving around a weapon, described as resembling a meat cleaver.

In the early hours of the following morning, a 53-year-old man from Gravesend was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

He was taken into custody and later released, pending further enquiries.

Since then police have been trawling through CCTV images and are urging bystanders with any important information to come forward.

They are particularly keen to hear from four people who were drinking outside a nearby pub, including one person who is said to have offered a cigarette to the suspect.
