POLICE are appealing for information after a 24-year-old man was attacked with a golf club in Gravesend town centre.

Last week, the Messenger spoke to the victim’s father, who revealed the extent of his son’s injuries. The man, who had surgery to repair his jaw after it was broken in three places, was attacked near the Railway Bell pub, Anglesea Place, at about 2.30am on Saturday, May 30.

As he talked to a group of people, a silver Citroen Saxo pulled up and a man got out.

He opened the boot of the car and took out a golf club. He threw it to one of the men in the group, who then struck the victim in the face, shattering his jaw.

Some of the men ran off while others drove off in the car.

Det Insp Ian Dampier said: "This was a very nasty and seemingly unprovoked attack which left the victim with serious injuries and in need of surgery. CCTV inquiries are ongoing and it is possible that others out and about in the town centre at this time would have witnessed the attack."

The attacker was white, 19 years old and 5ft 7in. He had blond, wavy hair and was scruffily dressed in a silver or grey shirt and black jeans. If you can help, call the police on 01474 366091.
