Ebbsfleet’s Preston Edwards and Michael West tasted international action as England C lost in Gibraltar on Tuesday night.

The pair came off the bench at half-time for the non-league representative side, although they were unable to prevent England slipping to a 3-1 defeat at the Victoria Stadium.

Edwards had started the previous England C game, a 1-0 defeat to Portugal under-23s in May, but his place in goal was taken by Tamworth’s Jonathan Hedge in Gibraltar.

Meanwhile, West (pictured) was a late addition to travelling party after being called up from the contingency squad, which also included his Fleet team-mate Tom Phipp and Welling striker Andy Pugh.

Gibraltar took a 1-0 lead into half-time and Edwards conceded two goals in five minutes after the break, one from the penalty spot. Stalybridge Celtic’s Connor Jennings netted a late consolation for England.

Ebbsfleet winger Ricky Shakes was an unused substitute as Guyana slipped to a 2-0 defeat in Trinidad & Tobago in World Cup qualifying.

However, the Golden Jaguars had already booked their place in next year’s semi-final group after a Shakes volley fired them to a 2-1 win in the reverse fixture on Friday night.

Guyana will take on Mexico, Costa Rica and El Salvador as they bid to take a step closer to the finals in Brazil in 2014.

All three players should return to the Fleet squad for Saturday’s home game against Darlington in Blue Square Bet Premier.
