Fire victim and their dog rescued from home in Highview, Vigo

A person and their dog were rescued from a house fire in a village.

Firefighters were called to reports of black smoke coming from a bedroom window of a property in Highview, Vigo, just before 7.05pm yesterday.

Crews, wearing breathing apparatus, tackled the flames with a main jet and a high-pressure hose reel jet.

One occupant and a dog were rescued from the property.

Four fire engines attended and it took crews around two hours to extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the fire has not yet established but will be investigated.

Update: Kent Fire and Rescue have subsequently confirmed a woman died following the fire.
