Firefighters spend three hours tackling farm blaze in Gravesend

Fire crews battled for three hours to bring a large straw blaze under control last night.

Four fire engines from Thameside and Dartford were called to the scene on Northfleet Green Road, Gravesend, shortly after 10pm.

When crews arrived over 30-tonnes of straw bales were engulfed in fierce flames in a field.

It took them three hours to fully extinguish the fire. A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "There was extensive damage with 30 to 60-tonnes of straw bales alight."

The spokesman added that the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
