A block of town centre flats were evacuated this morning after a fire broke out in a top floor bedroom.

Police and fire crews were called to Harmer Street, Gravesend, at 3am after neighbours reported the blaze.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said the fire started in a one-bedroom flat with nine people having to wait outside while they tackled the fire.

A man in his 40s was treated at the scene for minor injuries. An investigation into the fire is now taking place.
