Park wardens were called out this morning after part of a riverside park flooded overnight.

High tides fell between 2am and 2:30am this morning affecting parts of the Gravesend riverside area.

A section of the promenade next to the Fort Gardens, known as 'The Dell' is largely submerged under water.

Gravesham Council workforces distributed sand bags provided by the Environment Agency to properties deemed at risk of flooding overnight and attended affected areas of the park this morning.

They have urged those responsible for flood gates to close them and anyone close to the river to exercise caution.

A flood warning was issued for the section of the Thames from Greenhithe to Gravesend earlier this morning but was later withdrawn.

The next tide is at 2:30pm on Monday afternoon but it is not forecast to reach the flood warning level.

High tides could impact on the seaward side of the defences from Greenhithe to Gravesend, in particular those closest to the Gravesend Promenade, according to the government's flood information service.

Flooding conditions may apply two hours either side of the high tide from 12:15am to 4:15am in these locations.

Exceptionally high tides are expected for the next four days.

The government has advised people in areas of concern to take action to protect their property and to exercise caution close to the coast between the hours of 12am and 5am.
