'Gordon Ramsay' visits Danslow Butchers in Gravesend to mark its 40th birthday

By Tamanna Miah

A Gordon Ramsay lookalike was at the 40 year celebration of a butcher's shop.

Martin Jordan, a doppelgänger for the famous chef who has appeared on Britain's Got Talent, visited Danslow Butchers in Windmill Street, Gravesend, to celebrate the store being open for four decades.

The impersonator, who is from the town himself, rose to stardom for his uncanny re-semblance to hot head celebrity cook Gordon Ramsay, posed for pictures and videos outside the popular meat shop.

He reached the semi-final of ITV show Britain's Got Talent in 2010, with The Chippendoubles - accompanied by David Beckham, James Bond and Simon Cowell lookalikes.

He said: "40 years is something absolutely incredible. It goes against the run of things in towns like Gravesend.

"It's done an amazing job to be open for so long, especially competing against the amount of supermarkets.

"I look at Danslow, across the street from stores like Munns, and for me that represents what Gravesend is all about.

"I love Gravesend and the high street. Its safe and easy for children and families to walk by."

Shop owner Trevor Payne said: “We have been in business since 1978, initially it was a family business and I bought it afterwards.

“I started at 14 years old as a Saturday boy on a bike, cleaning the fridge and doing deliveries and then at 17 left school and was offered a job."

The 58-year-old said his Gravesend customers are more like family.

He added: “It is a friendly town, I like the customers, we like to look after our customers, we see them as friends and they come back week to week.

“I like dealing with the public. We have grown up with the customers and seen them get married and have children.”

Store manager Scott Cassettari, 50, has been working at the butchers for 14 years.

He said: “It is a joy to work with the public, its hard work with Christmas coming up, but we try our best.

"We respect our customers and have a thriving business.

"I’ve been working here since I was 37 years old for 14 years and started as a part time butcher

"It is not an easy job, with long hours and getting staff has been hard.”
