A Gravesend man is facing up to 20 years in a Florida jail after allegedly threatening passengers and assaulting crew members on a flight back to London.

Holidaymaker Sean Jude Kelly, 31, has been charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest after a plane made an emergency detour.

Mr Kelly was on a flight home from a holiday in Cancun, Mexico, when he allegedly became violent, started picking fights with other passengers and spitting at flight attendants.

The British Airways flight detoured to Orlando where Mr Kelly was arrested by Orange County police.

Speaking on US television, Mr Kelly said he remembered nothing about the flight, only being in the back of a police car.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said it was aware of the arrest of a British national in Orlando on Sunday, April 7 and said it had offered consular assistance.
