Last chance to donate Christmas gift

There's still time to make a difference for hundreds of lonely pensioners this Christmas by supporting our Show You Care campaign.

The Messenger teamed up with Age UK to launch the campaign which aims to provide elderly people with gifts.

Donations can be made at the customer services desks at Waitrose Dartford in The Orchards Shopping Centre, Dartford and Asda Gravesend in Thames Way, Gravesend.

You can also drop off presents at the Messenger's office at 7 High Street, Gravesend.

People have until Wednesday to make a donation. Volunteers will collect gifts from all checkpoints and take them to homes across Gravesham, Dartford and Swanley.

John Arnold, chief officer of Darent Valley Age UK, said: "We are enormously grateful to everyone, it is heartwarming to know the community is helping the more vulnerable in our society.

We have asked for non-perishable food such as biscuits or tinned meat, and donations of new warm clothing.

Additionally, small bottles of wine or after dinner mints would also be welcome and craft items such as wool, knitting needles or jigsaws.

To make a donation visit our office, Asda Gravesend or Waitrose Dartford, for more information contact the newsdesk on 01474 564327.
