Man, 83, held after stabbing in Gravesend village

An 83-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed in a Gravesend village.

The victim, in her mid-60s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police say she is in a stable condition after surgery and her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The man, who was arrested at the scene, has been detained in hospital under the Mental Health Act pending further police enquiries.

Officers say they were called to a house in Harvel Road, Vigo, near its junction with Whitepost Lane, at about 1.50pm on Saturday, June 12.

The Kent Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene, landing in playing fields behind Vigo Village School opposite the property.

Paramedics had reported the woman as having knife wounds to her chest and hands, but decided she should be taken to Darent Valley Hospital by land ambulance.
