Police hunting group of thugs who attacked man outside McDonald's and then chased him into Wetherspoon's in Gravesend

Officers are hunting a group of thugs who attacked a man outside a fast-food restaurant and then chased him into a pub.

The man, who has not been named, was set upon by a group of yobs who assaulted him outside McDonald's in New Road, Gravesend, last night.

The young thugs shouted and pushed the man and then chased the man into the nearby Wetherspoon's pub The Robert Pocock in Windmill Street.

It is understood staff came to his aid and called the police, the man did not need to be taken to hospital.

The incident happened at about 7.30pm, but no arrested have been made in connection with the attack.

Police spokesman James Walker, said: "It was reported that a group of youths had assaulted a man in New Road before following him into a premises in Windmill Street.

Officers attended the scene and located the victim, who had not sustained any serious injuries.

"The victim was taken home by officers while some patrols remained at the scene, conducting inquiries.

"At present no suspects have been identified."

The incident comes just days after police arrested three people while officers patrolled the town centre at the weekend.

One man was arrested after an altercation with a security guard working in New Road and two others were arrested for being drunk and disorderly after reports of an assault.

A 32-year-old man was given a caution and a 21-year-old man was issued with a £90 penalty notice disposal the following day.
