Higham man bailed after pensioner in his 80s killed after collision on A226 Gravesend Road

A man arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after a pensioner was killed has been released on bail.

It comes after a pedestrian in his 80s was involved in a fatal collision with a car on the A226 Gravesend in Shorne at around 11am on Saturday.

Officers rushed to the scene alongside paramedics and firefighters, but the elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been made aware.

A 58-year-old man from Higham was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive and causing death by careless driving.

He has since been bailed pending further inquiries until May 21.

Forge Lane and the surrounding areas were closed yesterday while officers continued their investigation.
