Man kicked and punched in unprovoked street attack

A GROUP of teenagers who helped stop an unprovoked attack are being sought by police.

The group of around five young men and women may hold vital clues about the attack in New House Lane, which left the victim shocked and bleeding.

The victim, who is 57 and from the Gravesend area, was walking home with his wife after a night out when a man walked up to him, pushed him to the ground and then attacked him.

A series of punches and kicks left him with a bruised, swollen and bleeding eye.

As the victim was being attacked, the group of young people appeared and dragged the man off. They then all disappeared.

Detective Constable David Canning is investigating the attack, which happened between midnight and 12.20am on Saturday 5 October, near the entrance to St George’s School.

He said: “This appears to have been a completely unprovoked assault and it is possible that those who came to the aid of the victim knew the attacker. I would ask that they get in touch.”

If you have information which may help police with their inquiries, or witnessed the incident, contact Det Con Canning at North Kent Police Station on 01474 366516 or Kent Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111.
