Customs officers seize around 60,000 illegal cigarettes in Queen Street, Gravesend

Customs officers have seized around 60,000 illegal cigarettes worth more than £22,000 to the taxman after searching two shops.

They were spotted in Queen Street, Gravesend, at around 3.40pm on Wednesday, May 15.

HM Revenue and Customs estimates the duty and VAT evaded on the products is £22,500.

It does not identify individual taxpayers or businesses, but has confirmed inquiries are ongoing.

No arrests were made.
