Old Gravesendians Rugby Club booked their place in the Kent Vase final with Saturday’s 31-8 defeat of Sittingbourne.

Awaiting them in the final at Aylesford on Sunday, May 10 will be Kent 1 champions Medway. A double decker bus for supporters leaves the club at 11am for the 1pm kick-off.

Though the old boys were not at their best, they scored four converted tries, although three were breakaways, gifted by wayward Sittingbourne passing.
Other than these fortunate breaks for the hosts, both sides produced a well-worked try apiece and kicked a penalty apiece.

The game came to life after the first score. Fly-half Richard Oxtoby won possession and centre Ricky Harding picked up the loose ball to score. Oxtoby converted to make the score 7-0.

Oxtoby’s penalty opened up a 10-0 lead which they increased just before the break through prop Omar Wahab’s try, converted by Oxtoby that made the score 17-0.

Sittingbourne replied through a Scott Truss penalty before Dave Boyer raced away unchallenged for a try that Oxtoby converted to make the score 24-3.

Another Boyer breakaway handed the old boys a try Oxtoby converted to make the score 31-3. Sittingbourne responded with an unconverted try.
