Overturned lorry causes traffic delays

The A227 as Gravesend has finally returned to normal after an eight hour closure this morning.

A lorry tipped on its side just before 3am while travelling towards Meopham. It was negotiating a roundabout after leaving the A2 when it overturned.

According to recovery crews at the site, the lorry was carrying 22 tonnes of rice.

The male driver was taken to hospital. He suffered a fractured shoulder as the articulated lorry rolled over.

Traffic coming from Gravesend town centre was diverted along Coldharbour Lane.

Traffic coming the other way was not affected.

Kent Fire and Rescue and Kent Police attended. Patrols were still on site six hours after the accident.

Drivers were also delayed on the A2 coastbound near the Ebbsfleet turn off after a blue Vauxhall Astra hit the central reservation.

There have been no injuries reported but two lanes of the A2 were closed for upto an hour while the car was recovered.
