Burglary suspects in court after Gravesend and Dartford homes allegedly targeted

A pair of suspected car thieves have appeared in court accused of carrying out 14 offences.

Detectives investigating several burglaries and attempted break-ins at homes in Gravesend and Dartford charged two men this week.

Kanie Russell and Dylan Monks were charged with stealing a car from outside a home in Thomas Drive, Gravesend on October 15.

The vehicle was allegedly spotted being driven dangerously through the Medway Towns before being found dumped in Mierscourt Road in Rainham the same morning.

Russell and Monks - both aged 19 - are also accused of attempting to burgle homes in Jellico Avenue and Northridge Road in Gravesend on the same date.

The men were arrested and charged by officers from the Kent Police Chief Constable's Crime Squad on Tuesday before appearing at Medway Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Russell of Green Lane, Ilford faces six charges of burglary, two attempted burglaries, aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and driving without insurance or a licence.

Monks of Southbury Road, Enfield faces the same charges.

He was also charged with two further counts including one of aggravated vehicle taking following an alleged burglary in Downs Avenue, Dartford on October 7 when a car was stolen.

The teenager faces an eighth charge of assaulting an emergency services worker which is said to have taken place during his arrest.

Following a court hearing, Monks has been remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on November 25.

Russell has been released on bail to appear at the same court on the same date.
