Multi-vehicle crash on A2 closes road

Emergency services were dealing with a pile-up on the A2 this evening.

Five vehicles crashed on the coastbound carriageway at the junction for the A227 Meopham, near Gravesend at around 5.50pm.

The road was closed while all cars involved were moved to the hard shoulder.

A spillage was also reported on the road and police and two fire engines were called to the scene.

Kent County Council Highways have also warned people to expect long delays approaching Ebbsfleet International Station due to the traffic going there for the newly-established coronavirus testing station.

A statement from Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called at 5.50pm on Wednesday April 29 to a five car collision on the A2 coastbound in Gravesend. No serious injuries were reported however lane closures were put in place to allow for debris to be cleared. The scene was clear by around 7pm."
