Gravesend girl's plea to help find treasured suitcase, feared stolen

A five-year-old girl and her family are calling for help to find a lost suitcase given to her by her late grandad, which they fear has been stolen.

Ohana Wendon of Sandown Road, Singlewell, was left distraught when the Minnie Mouse suitcase went missing on Sunday, together with her first school report, her first school photo, clothes, trainers, toys and a new princess backpack which she had been given as a present for doing well at school.

Mum Kerry Hillier said they had just left the Ye Olde Leather Bottel pub in Northfleet on Sunday - where Kerry's partner Lee Jackson had been performing as a singer - and were getting into the car in Springhead Road at around 6.30pm, when she put the suitcase down on the pavement.

"It wasn't until the morning I thought 'where's the case?" she said. "The neighbours said they had seen it and I sent flyers all around neighbourhood - the pub put one up in the toilets. I put a post on Facebook and it was shared more than a thousand times.

"There are such caring people out there - even people I don't know have posted. It's restored my faith a little in humanity."

Nevertheless she fears someone has since walked off with the case and the family are pleading for it to be returned.

"The things in there can't be replaced and it was a present from her grandad who died last year," added Kerry. "Like any five-year-old she's upset. It's got the backpack she got for a good report - how can someone keep that? It's got her first school report, and her first school photo. Anyone with half a conscious would open that and think 'I can't keep that'."

Since Kerry called for help on Facebook her post has been shared more than 1,600 times, so the family remain hopeful of news about the suitcase.
