Gordon Ramsay impersonator Martin Jordan, from Gravesend, receives rave reviews after Channel 4's Lookalikes

A Gordon Ramsay impersonator says his popularity has reached boiling point after he appeared on TV with fellow doubles for Barack Obama, Ricky Gervais and David Beckham.

Martin Jordan, 44, of Gravesend, featured on Channel 4’s Lookalikes on Monday in a fly-on-the-wall series taking a look at lives of celeb doppelgangers.

Since the episode aired, the former St John’s Catholic Comprehensive pupil has been bombarded with supportive texts and tweets from fans with glowing references for the mockumentary.

Mr Jordan watched the show in his friend’s cafe at 84 Echo Square, where filming took place of him chatting to Ricky Gervais lookalike Tim Oliver about advice for an upcoming date.

It wasn't the first time Mr Jordan has featured on TV after his variety act The Chippendoubles featured on Britain's Got Talent in 2010.

He said: “I was watching it in the cafe with a few school friends and everyone was loving it. Every time I came on people started cheering, there was even a Mexican wave at one point.

“I was just happy watching everyone else. They squeezed quite a lot in 24 minutes but we all got good screen time.

“Channel 4 said it was the highest audience they had for that time slot on a Monday and it seems to have appealed across the board.

“All the messages I’ve had on my phone and from Twitter are from people who say they just enjoyed watching something on TV they could sit back and have a laugh at.

“We even had inquiries for the Chippendoubles coming in at midnight.”

Mr Jordan began working as a mimic for the firebrand chef seven years ago after friends kept remarking about his uncanny resemblence to the Scot.

Gigs include turning up as Gordon Ramsay at weddings, parties and other events where he often flies into a rage at the standard of food and confrontations with the best man.

He has even met the foul-mouthed cook in person but described him as a genuinely “warm” character despite his fiery persona.

He added: “Everyone who knows me knows I’m a quiet person, I’m the last to put myself in front of the limelight.

“At first I was really struggling because I didn’t have the confidence but now I don’t think twice about speaking to 400 people.”

The similarities between the men end when it comes to the kitchen as Mr Jordan admitted he is a lousy chef.

Mr Jordan said: “Because a lot of my life is on the road I don’t get the chance to cook but I’m one of those who has an oven without a grill.”
