Schoolboy hits back of the net

IT’S a schoolboy’s dream - to walk out onto a Premiership football pitch in front of thousands of screaming fans.

But for nine-year-old Jonjo Heuerman it was also the end of a gruelling charity walk to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.

On Sunday, Jonjo, of Leyton Cross Road, Wilmington, along with his dad Gary, mum Donna and 13-year-old sister Megan, arrived at Upton Park just in time for the West Ham v Liverpool kick off – and was greeted by 36,000 cheering fans.

The Maypole Community Primary School pupil was joined by more than 100 fans and other walkers, including Pearly Kings and Queens, for the final leg of his three-day, 23-mile walk from Wembley Stadium to West Ham’s ground, where he laid a wreath at his hero Bobby Moore’s statue.

His efforts, which look set to have raised about £20,000, attracted support from celebrities including England football captain Rio Ferdinand, singer Pixie Lott, and cricketer Darren Gough, and earned him an appearance on the BBC’s Match of the Day 2.

The youngster undertook the walk in memory of his beloved nanny Lynda Heuerman and Bobby Moore, who both died from bowel cancer.

His mum Donna said: "Jonjo and his sister Megan were both very close to their nan and were devastated when she died, aged just 60 in February 2008.

"She would be very proud of them."

Stephanie Moore, who founded the Bobby Moore Fund in memory of her husband after his death in 1993, said: "Supporters of the Bobby Moore Fund come in all shapes and sizes and although Jonjo is very young, he took on a huge challenge."
