Robbery at For Girlys shop in Gravesend

A clothes shop assistant reportedly had a knife held to her throat in a robbery today.

Debbie Brind, 51, was alone in the For Girlys shop in Gravesend town centre when a man struck.

Police say they were called the the Stone Street shop at 3.05pm to reports of a man threatening the shop assistant with a knife.

It is thought he grabbed cash from the till but dropped a bag after he left the shop as he was chased by a customer.

Police seal off shop

Police recovered the bag and examined its contents.

A spokesman said: “The offender has been described as a white man, of slim build, about 5ft 11in and wearing a grey tracksuit.”

Shop owner Tracey Baker, 48, was due to celebrate her 17th anniversary running the shop tomorrow.

She said: “The first I knew was when I had a phone call from Debbie. She was crying and said someone had just robbed the shop and put a knife to her throat.

The shop owner is still totting up how much was stolen.

She added: “I just know Debbie’s all right and that’s all I’m worried about at the moment.

“We’ve almost never had trouble. We had someone about 10 years ago who tried but they didn’t take anything.”
