Gravesend pensioner who turned 102 sends thanks to family and neighbours

A woman who has just celebrated her 102nd birthday was serenaded on the doorstep by her neighbours.

Despite coronavirus restrictions, her family, friends and neighbours were determined there should be some sort of celebration, and organised presents, a cake and song.

Margaret said: "I would like to pay tribute to my good friends and neighbours in Winters Croft – Wendy, Martina, Cora, Irene, Andrea, Holly, Rosa, Gary, Tina, and Peter – who, without a doubt, made my 102nd birthday very memorable, and I would like to thank them for the wonderful plant, flowers and gifts I received.

"The highlight of the evening was going to the front door and seeing Wendy from number 21 standing there with a beautiful birthday cake, decorated by herself, and with two lighted candles on it.

"Behind her were my friends and neighbours who sang Happy Birthday.

"They could not come into the house because of the current restrictions, but the picture of Wendy holding the cake with the candles and with the girls behind her completely overwhelmed me.

"I would also like to thank my nephew David for looking after me in his usual calm and efficient manner.

"Many thanks to you all for your caring thoughts and gifts."
