Armed robbery of 19-year-old in Northfleet leads to two charges

Two men have been charged after a high street armed robbery.

On Saturday at 8.30pm, a 19-year-old had his phone stolen and was forced to withdraw cash at knifepoint on Northfleet High Street.

Two suspects were arrested the following day.

Paul Appleford, 34, of Brunswick Gardens, Gravesend was arrested and charged with robbery while Abid Rafiq of Hampton Crescent, Gravesend was arrested and charged with robbery and possession of a sharp object in a public place.

Both men appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court today and have been remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court at a later date.
