Disabled tot's wheelchair and mobility vehicle stolen in Painters Ash Lane, Northfleet

A mum has appealed to thieves who stole her daughter's mobility vehicle from their home to return its contents.

Emmy Hughes, 36, said she was "absolutely heartbroken" to find the car had been taken "right outside their front door" in Painters Ash Lane, Northfleet, at 8.30pm on Tuesday.

It contained a customised wheelchair and walker belonging to her two-year old disabled daughter.

Willow, who has spina bifida, needs the equipment to move around and cannot leave the house without it.

"It is ridiculous someone has the balls to steal it," she said.

"This is Willow's mobility car and not just some gym truck. Without it I can't take her out and am well and truly housebound."

The black Land Rover Defender is distinctively marked with the Bulks Power & Strength branding, the gym which Emmy runs in Gravesend.

She said she is struggling to see why someone would target a vehicle which is so easily identifiable.

"It is like a tractor that travels at 60mph. It is hardly a getaway car," she added.

The fitness fanatic believes the thieves waited for her husband to leave for work before disabling the car's alarm and driving off with her daughter's equipment in tow.

Having been on the phone to insurers all morning she adds: "It is not about the money, it is the inconvenience.

"I keep looking out the window hoping it is just a bad dream."

Police were called to the address and are conducting inquiries into the incident.
