Thousands raised in memory of Catherine Mellanby as inquest finds no cause for tragic death in Greece

Almost £4,000 has been raised in memory of a young woman who died while working in Greece last summer.

Catherine Mellanby, 23, from Gravesend, lived in shared accommodation with friends while working at a hotel in the country.

An inquest at Gravesend’s Old Town Hall last week heard that she was found dead in her bed by friends on August 24, with an examination giving the cause of death as "undefined".

A later post-mortem examination at Darent Valley Hospital also found no cause of death, leaving coroner Roger Hatch to conclude the case with an open verdict.

Miss Mellanby's family set up a JustGiving page after her death, raising money for homeless charity Crisis.

"Before Catherine sadly passed away she made it clear that she wished to donate to the homeless, an issue she felt strongly about, so our quest is to raise as much as possible through various activities on her behalf," it reads.

"Catherine’s chosen charity is Crisis, the national charity for single homeless people.

"Crisis are dedicated to ending homelessness by delivering life-changing services and campaigning for change throughout the UK.

"This page will stay open for donations indefinitely, all of which go to Crisis, and we will keep you informed about any future fundraisers or events in Catherine’s honour."
