Tragic student was 'good person to be around'

STAFF and pupils at a Kent grammar school have been left devastated by the death from leukaemia of a popular sixth-former.

Ben Johnson, who had just turned 17, was a student at Gravesend Grammar School.

Head teacher Geoff Wybar said a book of remembrance has been set up at the school.

He stressed: "Ben had a zest for life and a positive approach to every challenge that he faced. These qualities made him a good student, a good friend, and a good person just to be around.

“He will be deeply missed by everyone at Gravesend Grammar School and our thoughts are with his family at this most harrowing of times.”

Ben achieved 11 GCSEs and was also a keen sportsman who enjoyed participating in football and boxing.

His friends have taken floral tributes to the school and attended a church service in his honour.
