Police are still waiting to carry out vital medical tests after a baby was badly injured and admitted to hospital.

The one-month old baby was taken to Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford, on Thursday, December 1 and later transferred to King's College Hospital, London.

It was after he was found with multiple injuries.

But police say it's still not been possible to carry out the necessary scans and tests required to further their investigation.

Chief Supt Neil Jerome said: "Due to the baby's tender age and the medical care he is currently undergoing, it has not yet been possible to carry out the relevant scans and assessments for the police investigation.

"The baby's well-being is our top priority, and once it is safe to do so my officers will continue with this aspect of the investigation to find out how the injuries were caused and whether any criminal offences have been committed."

He thanked the community, who have pulled together to express support for the baby boy.

He said the infant's condition was stable and he was "receiving excellent care and medical treatment in a London hospital."

It comes as a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both from Gravesend, answered bail today in connection with the boy's injuries.

Their bail was extended to a date not yet disclosed.

Candles have been lit and teddy bears laid outside a house in Gravesend.

St Aidan's Church is opening from 8am until 8pm on Sunday so people can light a candle and say a prayer for the baby.

Rev Richard Martin, curate at St Aidan's, in St Aidan's Way, Gravesend, has prepared a set prayer if well-wishers wanted to read it.

People will also be on hand to listen and pray with church-goers, and prayers will be said at the weekly 9.30am Sunday service.
