Yobs uproot Jubilee tree

Youths have uprooted a tree planted to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, broken into the local scout hut and cut a hole in the safety surface at Judson's Recreation Ground in Meopham.

Police are appealing for witnesses in a bid to end the month-long problems.

PC Dave Smith said: "The majority of the damage is on the children’s play equipment and ranges from graffiti to equipment being destroyed.

"We are working closely with the parish council to stop this mindless vandalism which is preventing children and parents from enjoying the recreation ground."

A local resident who asked not to be identified said: "They are just mindless idiots. At one time you would give them a slap around the earand send them home.

"You have to put fear back into kids."

Anyone with any information should contact officers on 101 or speak to a local police officer. Alternatively contact Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
