Coronavirus Kent: Hemsley Conservation Centre near Gravesend in desperate need of food

Hemsley Conservation Centre in Fairseat, near Gravesend, is appealing for donations to feed their animals amid the coronavirus crisis.

The zoo is home to almost 70 different species who need around the clock heating, food and care but due to the pandemic, food for the animals is now scarce and donations have dried up.

Operations manager, Henry Weedon, said: "We are really struggling here at the centre to find food, like fruit and veg, to feed our animals.

"We rely on donations of food that has gone past its best before or use by date from supermarkets and due to the current events they do not have any to donate.

"Any food that we need to stock up on we would usually buy however the shelves are empty.

"We are now closed to the public and our only source of income has gone so we have set up a crowd funding page.

"People can donate money in return for items to use later in the year."
