Day of fund-raising for ex-Fleet skipper

THE world of football has responded magnificently to support the charity football match and auction in aid of former Gravesend & Northfleet captain Bruce Sewell, who is battling motor neurone disease.

A day of fund-raising kicks off with a match starting at 2pm on Sunday at Gravesend & Northfleet's Stonebridge Road ground where Premiership referee Steve Bennett will officiate between a Tottenham Hotspur Veterans side and a team made up of Bruce's former team-mates from Gravesend & Northfleet, Yeading and Boreham Wood.

The action then moves to the Fleet Leisure Centre in Nelson Road, Northfleet at 6pm where an auction and raffle will be staged with fantastic items on offer.

Amongst the football-related auction items are:

* A signed Petr Cech shirt from his last international from Czech Republic international
* A Teddy Sheringham signed West Ham shirt
* A John Terry signed England shirt
* A Frank Lampard signed Chelsea shirt
* A Jimmy Bullard signed Fulham shirt
* Charlton Athletic shirt signed by the entire squad
* Arsenal shirt signed by the entire squad
* Chelsea football shirt signed by the entire squad
