Ebbsfleet United manager Dennis Kutrieb takes it one game at a time after seven National League South wins in a row

Ebbsfleet boss Dennis Kutrieb has vowed not to look too far ahead after they continued their winning streak.

Kutrieb’s men made it seven straight wins in National League South with a 3-1 success over Bath at Stonebridge Road last weekend.

Their promising start will be put to the test at second-placed Havant this Saturday, a side who have only dropped two points so far.

“We just try to take it week to week, that’s the easiest way for us to see it,” vowed Kutrieb.

“We don’t need to look at September as a whole, or all the upcoming games. We have Bath ticked off, now we can focus on Havant and then Braintree - two tough games with different styles of play that we need to be ready for.”

The Havant game sees Kutrieb face opposite number Paul Doswell. There’s no love lost between the pair, with the Havant boss banned for six games by the FA following insults aimed at Kutrieb with reference to his German nationality from a match in February 2021.

Doswell was charged again under FA Rule 3.1 and 3.2 after clashing with Kutrieb when the sides met in September 2021. The FA are yet to announce the outcome of that charge.

Kutrieb, however, says it’s a battle between two sets of players.

“We approach it as the team always approaches any game,” said the Fleet boss. “It’s not a game of me against another manager, it’s a game of 11 v 11, our team against their team.

“They are physically strong, they are fit, they’re full-time as well. It’s going to be a hard battle, mostly in the air, that’s what I expect. If we have the ball on the floor, we need to make sure we play quick enough forward to damage them and that’s the challenge for us to get ready for this week.”

Havant's dropped points came at Braintree in the first week of the season. But Kutrieb feels it’s too early to say if they will be title contenders.

“I don’t know,” he responded. “At the moment it looks like [they will be]. I heard they have a massive budget, I’ve heard they have massive players, they get big money.

"If they are up in the table or not is none of my business, I need to make sure we do our job and are prepared to go there and have a great fight.”

The Fleet suffered big away defeats last season at the likes of Dulwich, Dorking and Maidstone and Kutrieb has been keen to add some steel to his ranks in the close season. A trip to Havant will be a good benchmark to see how far they have improved.

“It was a completely different situation to this season, as you can see we are up for the battles,” said Kutrieb.

“Even if I see the stats from the shortened season to last season, the 50/50 battles, our challenges have massively improved. That’s what you need at the likes of Dorking, Maidstone, Dulwich or Havant."
