Ebbsfleet United offer of free transfers for six contracted players runs out on Friday

Time is running out for clubs to pick up a free transfer from Ebbsfleet United.

The six players with another year on their contracts have all been told they can leave Fleet for nothing before the end of May.

But after Friday, boss Garry Hill will withdraw that offer and start building his squad for next season.

Ebou Adams, Nathan Ashmore, Jack King, Sean Shields, Corey Whitely and Lawrie Wilson are the players in question.

Hill said: "I gave everybody a month to make their mind up to let the opportunity arise that they were all offered a free transfer.

"I said I wouldn’t be doing anything in that month (May) in respect of fetching people in, to know where I am going forward.

"Certain players have got that opportunity going forward, if they’ve got another year left on their contract, whether they wish to stay at the club or not. I gave them a month to clear their heads because I want to push on under my playing squad in a direction of being positive and dealing with my own situations instead of getting those situations put to me or inheriting those situations which I’ve experienced over the past few months."

So if players don't move before Friday will Hill view them as part of his squad going forward?

"We take a view of everything," he said. "Yes, unless I’m told anything different or I have an enquiry from anybody satisfactory in respect of we don’t stand in anybody’s way and it’s right for the football club going forward, yes, but as far as I’m concerned, after this Friday I class those players in my thoughts going forward to build with unless I find a player who’s better or think I can fetch a player in who’s better for the football club going forward and then we all take a view."

Michael Cheek left Ebbsfleet to sign for Bromley earlier this month but so far he's the only departure.

Hill said: "I think, where I am, I control the situation a lot better in my own mind (from June onwards).

"It has been a situation you give those opportunities.

"I didn’t want to let Michael Cheek go out of the football club for nothing. If somebody gets 15 goals for you in the league in 21 games, that’s a great record. When I came in, he’d only had four starts but I don’t pick and choose, I class it as a complete squad and I’ve done that across the board - but Michael Cheek is a snippet for Bromley.

"I have to honour my statement and that’s what I’ve done but Michael Cheek is the only player as this present time I’ve had a genuine enquiry for and we didn’t stand in his way as a football club.

"We made that declaration on May 2 and we will honour that all the way through."
