Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon on the 3-0 win at Barnet

Ebbsfleet's big win at Barnet didn't come as a surprise to manager Daryl McMahon.

Goals from Danny Kedwell, Corey Whitely and Sean Shields fired Fleet to a 3-0 success at The Hive - their best result of the season so far.

It came four days after the 1-0 home defeat to Sutton but McMahon insisted little had changed from one game to the other.

He was always confident the goals would come if Fleet kept creating chances and they duly did in North London.

"We have been performing well," he said. "It’s not like a bolt out of the blue.

"If you look at the results, you might not think that but if you’re actually watching the match, I think we have been performing well and creating chances.

"It was only a matter of time before we started taking them.

"People get carried away with the scoreline whereas the performances have been the same anyway.

"If I’m being brutally honest, it was one of our worst performances - especially in the first half - in terms of us passing the ball.

"We were far better against Sutton and Chesterfield but we won 3-0 today.

"I don’t want anyone to get carried away with the scoreline as if something’s different today than it was Tuesday. We just took our chances."

Ebbsfleet scored at key times - a minute before half-time and again just as Barnet were enjoying their best spell of the match.

Shields' late strike lifted them to 10th in the National League on goal-difference.

McMahon said: "It’s a big football club so to come here and win 3-0 is great for us.

"We weren’t under too much pressure in the whole match.

"The last little bit when you’re winning, when they’re coming on to you, you know we’ve got the speed to get in behind them so the game changes.

"Goals change games and it forced Barnet to come higher.

"We know we’ve got the speed of Adams, Whitely, Shields and Coulson to get in behind them. Even Kedwell got in behind them a couple of times so that went in our favour."

Fit-again Dean Rance made his first appearance of the season as a substitute, coming on to steady the ship with Fleet defending a 1-0 lead.

McMahon said: "I thought he was magnificent.

"In that spell, they got a lot of crosses into the box and they got Coulthirst and Charlee Adams stepping in behind Harrison.

"I thought Deano shored that up and was terrific on second balls - and kept the ball for us as well.

"They had a 15-minute spell, like everyone will do, especially at home, when they had a go at us.

"They put a lot of crosses into the box and forced us to change our shape to combat that. The subs who came on were excellent and kicked us on to another level."
