Ebbsfleet United 3 Barnet 0 match report

Ebbsfleet climbed off the foot of the National League on Tuesday night.

Garry Hill's men made light of their woes this season by putting play-off hopefuls Barnet to the sword at Stonebridge Road.

Myles Weston, Alex Reid and Ayo Obileye all scored as Ebbsfleet claimed their first home league win of the season.

Ebbsfleet had the only chance of the opening half-hour when a Frankie Sutherland free-kick was headed over by skipper Jack King.

Barnet fielded former Dover and Dartford striker Alfie Pavey in the starting line-up but he largely cut an isolated figure against Fleet's solid defensive duo of Tyler Cordner and King.

Fleet's danger was all coming down the right wing as Weston gave the inexperienced Loic Hernandez a tough time.

It was no surprise that Fleet's goals both came from that supply line.

Keeper Scott Loach fumbled a long-range Sutherland shot minutes before Fleet took a 33rd-minute lead. Weston went down the right-wing and cut back on his left-foot, his perfect cross narrowly missing the head of Reid but having sufficient power to find the far corner of Loach's net.

Fleet were in dreamland just three minutes later. Weston again the provider. His initial right-wing cross was only cleared as far as Reid, who needed two attempts before decisively finding the far corner.

Their tails up, the crowd in full voice, Fleet's early-season troubles seemed a distant memory. James Ball hooked over and the only sour note for the hosts was a booking for Sutherland on the stroke of half-time. Barnet went in at the break having not forced a save from Fleet's Jordan Holmes.

Barnet's first attempt at goal arrived five minutes into the second half but Ephron Mason-Clark's long-range shot was deflected wide for a corner.

Fleet were forced back, Holmes finally called into action when he kept out substitute Josh Walker's fierce drive.

With home fans looking anxiously at their watches, their fears were eased with 19 minutes left by a third Ebbsfleet goal.

A deep free-kick was kept in at the far post and with Fleet appealing for a spot-kick, Obileye reacted quickest to turn the ball home.

Fleet cleared one effort off the line minutes later. Holmes produced a stunning double save 10 minutes from time to deny Pavey, and, in truth, it would have been tough on Fleet's endeavour had they conceded a goal late on.

Fleet nearly added a fourth with almost the last kick of the game, Reid's right-foot shot going just over the bar from distance.
