Herne Bay high street shut due to chimney collapse

Emergency crews have closed off a high street this afternoon after a chimney collapsed.

People have been warned to avoid the area in Herne Bay as police and fire crews deal with the incident.

The road was shut after bricks and rubble fell from the roof earlier today. No casualties have been reported.

Three fire engines are in attendance, as well as a building inspector.

People are currently advised to avoid the area between Station Road and Dolphin Street, which is closed temporarily while crews make the scene safe.

Firefighters have been using a ladder to access the roof and inspect the damage and other chimney pots.

At least two chimneys have been deemed unstable, amid fears of strong winds tonight.

One has a large crack in it.
