Delays warning as Herne Bay High Street roadworks begin

Motorists have been told to expect delays through the centre of Herne Bay as a 10-day roadwork scheme begins.

Temporary traffic lights have today been placed close to the town's Texaco garage in High Street, as Southern Water teams start a utility repair and maintenance project.

Traffic website one.network warns "delays are likely" in the area, with the work not unexpected to end until next Friday.

Reacting to the news on Facebook, one resident said: "More roadworks?

"Great, that's all we need."

Another local predicted "chaos" in the town, while one person said the roadworks "never stop".

This is happening while Kent County Council continues its multi-million-pound improvement scheme in Bullockstone Road.

The rat-run - which is regularly used by motorists travelling between Canterbury and Herne Bay - will be shut until August, as teams equip it with a widened carriageway and two roundabouts.

Meanwhile, the main route between the city and the Bay, Calcott Hill in Sturry, will be shut until Sunday.

Drivers are being directed along an 18-mile diversion using the A299 Thanet Way while road is closed.
