Huge police presence at stations in Herne Bay, Margate and Whitstable following reports of 100 people fighting

Police responded in huge numbers to reports of 100 people fighting on trains and at railway stations on the Kent coast.

British Transport Police (BTP) officers were called to multiple reports of disorder yesterday evening in Margate, Herne Bay and Whitstable.

BTP dogs and Kent Police also assisted, with several units sent to the scenes.

In a post on X, BTP wrote: “Officers stayed at Margate along with Southeastern Railway enforcement officers to see through the thousands that had come down to the coast and to prevent any further disorder.

“A dispersal order was utilised which was put in place by the police which covered the train station.”

A picture was also shared by BTP of several police vehicles and officers at Margate station.

Others posted on Facebook show a number of patrol cars outside Herne Bay station.

A spokesperson for BTP said: “Officers were called to reports of disorder at Margate, Herne Bay and Ramsgate Railway Stations in the evening of Saturday, September 9.

“BTP officers worked closely with Kent Police to resolve all issues and ensure everyone got home safely.”

A spokesperson for the police added: “At 10.56pm police patrols attended Herne Bay railway station to assist officers from the British Transport Police.”
