A police helicopter was spotted hovering over a Kent town after a search was launched for a missing boy.

Officers were contacted at 11.30pm last night after concern was raised for a teenager seen near Hampton Pier Avenue in Herne Bay.

The chopper was seen flying over the coast at about 1am, as teams looked for the youngster.

A spokesman for the force said: "We carried out a search of the area, with the help of HM Coastguard and a police helicopter.

"The boy was safely located."
