Yacht beached at Herne Bay in high winds

Last night's storms and high winds have claimed at least one nautical victim.

A sailing cabin cruiser broke free from its moorings and washed up on the beach at Herne Bay where it has been the focus of much attention from passers-by all morning.

Omri Moxey, who took this photograph, said: "I first saw it about nine o'clock this morning when I noticed a motorcyclist pull up and look over the barrier onto the beach.

"The boat is sitting on the shingle quite high up due to winds and storm.

"It has quite a tall mast which actually you can see from the top of the Kings Hall hill. I thought it looked so sorry for itself.

"When I passed by again about two hours later, there was quite a crowd looking at it."

The vessel doesn't seem to have suffered any structural damage.

A kind soul also appears to have tied it up the ship to beach groyne to prevent it being potentially washed out to sea and lost if there is another high tide.
