Owner Meka described the incident as "traumatising", claiming a man entered the shop after customers left before allegedly grabbing her and saying "give me the money, otherwise I hurt you" while threatening her with a metal bar.

Police have said a man allegedly entered the premises, assaulted a member of staff and then stole a quantity of cash from the till.

He is a white man who was wearing a hooded top, blue jacket, blue jeans, brown boots, gloves and wearing a face mask.

A 41-year-old man from the same area was later arrested in connection with the incident and taken into custody.

Detective Inspector David Cox said: "Investigators have been checking CCTV in the area and completing forensic examinations at the scene.

'When a total stranger comes in and destroys all your hard work right in front of you, it's really painful...'

"It is thought the suspect might have got into a white van parked near the post office and we are appealing for anybody who may have seen a man acting suspiciously in the area to contact our appeal line.

"We are also asking motorists with dashcam and residents or businesses with privately held CCTV, to check for footage that may assist the investigation."

Meka explained a similar incident happened at the shop in September last year, which had left her shaken up.

She added: "Broomfield is a lovely and quiet village. When I first moved into this area I really loved this place.

"Everyone is so kind and welcoming but when a total stranger comes in and destroys all your hard work right in front of you it's really painful.

"These are the kind of places they are targeting - we all have to be try and be very secure and safe."
