Bately wins Les Golding Memorial 10k

THEO BATELY from Deal Tri won the Les Golding Memorial 10K race hosted by Invicta East Kent AC.

The race, previously held in Canterbury, was staged in Herne Bay for the second year running. Early morning rain cleared to leave a still but warm morning.

First home was Bately in 33min 45sec, with Michael Gore of Maidstone Harriers second in 34:23.

Third was former Invicta athlete Geoff Turner 34:51, now at Chelmsford AC.

In the ladies' race Invicta's Hedi Meehan set a course record and personal best in 40:22 and also took the The Rose Bowl trophy for being first Invicta lady home.

In second was Lisa Clayton of Invicta (45:22) and Rachel Wood ensured Invicta took the ladies' team prize.

Martyn Rouse of Invicta finished sixth overall but was first MV50 in 35:56 and took the Les Golding Memorial Trophy for first Invicta athlete home.

Les Golding's son Steve ran well to finish in a creditable 41:05 for 27th place. From 228 entrants there were 189 finishers.
