Herne Bay sign former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper and Hythe Town defender

Herne Bay have boosted their back line after signing another goalkeeper and central defender.

Former Charlton Athletic professional goalkeeper Jordan Beeney has signed while the club has also re-signed Ben Gorham from Hythe Town.

Bay have solved their goalkeeping issues following the injury to Ben Hunter with on loan Gillingham keeper Louie Catherall making his debut in their draw with Faversham on Saturday.

Joint-boss Embery said: “Louie Catherall did very well in goal. He only had a couple of saves to make during the game and dealt with it well.

“We have games coming thick and fast so we needed to get another goalkeeper in because Louie is here for a month and we won’t be able to play him in the cup games.

“Jordan Beeney is a great replacement while Ben Hunter recovers from his knee injury. It’s also good to have Ben Gorham back at the club.”

Herne Bay host Whyteleafe on Saturday in the Bostik South East and then travel to Phoenix Sports in the first round of the Kent Senior Cup on Tuesday.

Embery said: “They are a good sides. They move the ball well and are very competitive at this level.

“It will be a tough game for us. If we work hard and show the right attitude then we will come away with a result.”

Connor Cox got the equalising goal in Bay’s first match of the season at Faversham Town cancelling out Ashley Miller’s opener.

Embery felt like his side should have come away with all three points.

He said: “We should have won the game and been out of sight in the first half.

Their goalkeeper had a great game and we had two stonewall penalties that were turned down.

“We have sent the video to the referee as there was clear contact and we don’t know why they weren’t given.

“I have no complaints with the way we played in the match.”
